GO FOR WHAT REALLY MATTERS!

JIM ELLIOTT, A CHRISTIAN MISSIONARY MARTYRED BY THE AUCA INDIANS SAID THIS:  “He is no fool, who gives up that which he cannot keep, to gain that which he cannot lose.”

That is a truth verified time after time in God’s Word.  Jesus said in Matthew 10:39: “Whoever finds his life shall lose it: and he who loses his life for my sake, shall find it.”  I don’t believe Jesus is specifically speaking of martyrdom here, as was the fate of Jim Elliott, and the four other missionaries who died with him.  I believe, rather, that He is speaking of finding our lives, in the sense of discovering that we can do whatever we want, no matter how frivolous what we want may be, rather than giving our lives to God for the sake of Jesus Christ; and consequently finding unsurpassed joy and peace in His service.  In other words:  We may choose to serve God, or not serve Him!

Usually, I’m reticent in regard to using myself as an example in the things I write; but I’m going to do so now, because I don’t know of anyone who has wasted what God has given him anymore than I have.  I find, to my chagrin, that I’m an old man who has not loved God as I should have loved Him; not loved my fellow humans as I should have loved them; and wasted much of what God has entrusted me with in utterly frivolous folly. Does that mean my case is hopeless; and that my goose is cooked as far as ever doing anything meaningful and worthwhile?  Absolutely not.  As in the case of the prophet Jonah, we find that our God is a God of second chances.  The one who enters the field of labor late in the day, receives the same monetary compensation as the guy who worked all day.  The Prodigal Son who went whoring came back disgraced, and willing to become his father’s servant, only to be given a feast and be received as a son.  Our inclination is to feel that the Father was not right in so doing.  We have a tendency to agree with the elder son, that the younger “wild kid” is undeserving, and therefore should receive nothing more than he had already received; and, given his earlier licentiousness, he didn’t really deserve that.   By human reasoning alone, we are absolutely just in thinking that way.: The Prodigal Son didn’t deserve being received back as a son; and someone like me, as wishy-washy, lazy, uncaring, unmerciful, unkind, and unfeeling as I’ve proved to be, doesn’t deserve good things from God the Father either.   In short, I don’t deserve to be awakened to the realization of where I’ve been, and what I’ve become, spiritually. Nevertheless, God, in mercy, warns me in Ephesians 5:14:  “Awake, you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.”  I have awakened, and He has given me light!  He woke me up before it was too late.  As undeserving, as licentious, and as unfeeling and uncaring as the Prodigal Son;  indeed, literally a prodigal son myself, I have come home and eagerly accept my “second chance.”

Does this mean I’m gonna be perfect and never sin again?  God forbid that I should be deceived into thinking that.  What it does mean, is that every morning henceforth that God affords to me, I will wake up; seek His Face, remind Him of my commitment, and claim this, His promise: “Fear not, for I am with you.  Be not afraid, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my right hand of righteousness (Isaiah 41:10).”  Then I’m going to live for Him; witness for Him; preach for Him; and sing for Him.  May God help me and keep me steadfast!

“WHAT REALLY MATTERS?”   People’s souls, that’s what!  William Bradbury’s hymn, “The Solid Rock” says it best: “On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.”

GO FOR WHAT REALLY MATTERS!

A TALE OF TWO PEOPLE

IN LUKE 18:9-14, JESUS SPEAKS THIS PARABLE TO SOME WHO TRUSTED IN THEMSELVES, THAT THEY WERE RIGHTEOUS, AND DESPISED OTHERS:

“Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.  The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God,  I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.  I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying God be merciful to me a sinner.  I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”

I refuse to insult anyone’s intelligence by explaining this parable: because it is quite self-explanatory.  Jesus makes it clear that you and I will not be justified as long as we think we’re superior to others in regard to our standing before God.  Romans 3:23 says that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, every single one of us.  Unless we have been washed in the blood of Jesus Christ by grace through faith in Him (Ephesians 2:8-10, our goose is cooked.  ‘nough said!

With love from  a decrepit sinner saved by grace,

ALL ABOUT JESUS-HE IS KING

GOD, THROUGH THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST, CREATED ALL THINGS.  HE MADE EVERYTHING THAT WAS MADE, AND DID SO FOR HIS OWN PLEASURE (COLOSSIANS 1:16).

Since the Sovereignty of Jesus Christ is indisputably obvious (That is: if one has ears to hear), it is wise to come to Him immediately, by repentance to God the Father, and faith in the Lord Jesus.  If one doesn’t have ears to hear, then I reckon the one who preaches of witnesses to such a one is, in effect, beating a dead horse.

Therefore, as a Christian, and one who is called to bear the message of the saving power of Jesus Christ to others, I beseech you to come to Jesus Christ by faith today.  It is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone, as He is revealed in the Bible alone, that anyone is saved, including you and I.  Are you struggling with the vicissitudes of life and don’t know where to turn?  Then turn to Christ.  He is the One who broke the power of sin and death.  He can give you light, eternal life, and peace.  None other can make that claim.

From a sinner saved by grace, who loves the Lord Jesus, and cares for the souls of others,

REAL REVIVAL PRODUCES UNITY

I’ve been praying for revival for a long time.  What’s wrong?  Why doesn’t God send it on a large scale; in a big way; as history tells us he has done in times past?  The answer or answers can be found by reading the New Testament,  John 3rd chapter, and John 17th chapter in particular.

The earth is shrouded in darkness:  Is that not so?  We’ve come to a place in time when the sale of weapons may well exceed the sale of Bibles on the worldwide scale.  While the sale of books with Christian themes is rampant, so is the sale of guns, knives, and even (for the old folks) self defense canes and sticks.  My advice is this:  If you don’t have one, buy one more book:  The Holy Bible.  Or if you have one, and don’t read it daily and regularly,  begin this very day to do that.  You’ll find within the pages of that “Book of Books,” that God is the defense of those who trust in Him (Psalm 62:1,2); that Jesus Christ is Lord of all (John 1), that God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is “Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, He who is, and who was, and who is to come, The Almighty (Revelation 1:8). ” You’ll find that Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord; and believing that within your heart, and confessing Him before others will bring you salvation (Romans 10:9,10).

In the pages of God’s Holy Word, Jesus speaks authoritatively on the matters of sin, and righteousness, and judgment:  Why is the world, why perhaps are you – looking elsewhere?

In John 3, there is a rather long discourse between Jesus and Nicodemus, a Pharisee who came to Jesus by night.  Most people I’ve heard preach on this discourse between Jesus and Nicodemus stop at verse 7.  In reality, the discourse goes on through verse 21, and is one of most important portions of Scripture in the entire Bible; because it speaks plainly to the issue of what is really wrong with human beings; and how the fall of Adam has affected us in no uncertain terms.  Let’s begin at John 3:14 and continue to verse 21: “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up.  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through  him might be saved.  He that believeth in him is not condemned.  He that believeth not, is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  And this is the condemnation:  That light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For every one that doeth  evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved (Made known with disdain).  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest (Made known), that they are wrought in God.”

Is it not abundantly plain, exactly why the earth is shrouded in darkness?  Jesus says plainly that it’s because :”The Light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light.”  The key word here for our edification is “believe.”  Believe in Jesus Christ, who is the Light who came into the world, to enlighten all who will believe, and to give them eternal life.

WHERE DOES UNITY COME IN?

In the 17th Chapter of John we have the prayer that Jesus prayed for his own.  We are included in His prayer, as “them who also shall believe on me through their (The Apostles) word.” That is, we who have heard or read the Word of God, and believe in Jesus Christ as He is revealed therein.  He prays in John 3:17, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”  I’ve some questions: Is there more than One Jesus Christ revealed in God’s Word?”  The obvious answer is, no.  But, is there more than one Jesus (false Messiahs) believed on in the world?  The answer is, many.  This is a dilemma, is it not?  Nevertheless, God Himself has given us the answer to this present dilemma in the Person of His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ.  Believe in Him as He is revealed in Holy Scripture, and no other way.  Receive Him as the Bible says, by grace through faith alone –  as He is revealed in the Holy Bible alone!  That is the fulfillment of the unity of which Jesus Christ speaks in John 17.  WE MUST BE BIBLE CHRISTIANS, “BEING BORN AGAIN, NOT OF CORRUPTIBLE SEED, BUT OF INCORRUPTIBLE, BY THE WORD OF GOD, WHICH LIVETH AND ABIDETH FOREVER. FOR ALL FLESH IS GRASS.  THE GRASS WITHERETH, AND THE FLOWER THEREOF FALLETH AWAY:  BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURETH FOREVER.  AND THIS IS THE WORD THAT BY THE GOSPEL IS PREACHED UNTO YOU (1 PETER 1:23-25).

ONE MORE QUESTION:  Will you join, in a spirit of revival, with others, for the sake of Jesus Christ and the Gospel, by believing in Christ alone; as He is revealed in the Bible alone; by grace alone; through faith alone?  If Christians of all denominations will do this, Catholics and Protestants alike, as well as those who claim to be neither (in the spirit of Chronicles 7:14), we will have a revival such as the world has never seen.

From a sinner saved by grace, in the Spirit of the Grace of our Lord Jesus,

ALL ABOUT JESUS-HE IS ALL IN ALL

LOOK ALL ABOUT YOU, AND CONTEMPLATE THIS:  Has the world with all of its advancements in education become a safer place because of learning?  If you’re honest you’ll say “no.”  Why not?  Because all of the knowledge that humankind has acquired, cannot effect a change in human hearts.  We are sinners by nature, and God in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only one with an answer to that dilemma.  Indeed, He is the One who by His Life, by His death, and by His resurrection, proved Himself to be both Lord and Savior.  You and I, by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, can make a change in the world: and we who are saved by grace through faith are the only ones who can.

With all of our knowledge, we can never become people with renewed spirits, and clean hearts, except we come in repentance to God the Father, and by faith to the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Timothy 3:7; Jeremiah 17:9; 1 Timothy 1:15).

In 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, we are told, as new creations in Christ, exactly what we need to do.  We are to share the Gospel, so that others may be reconciled to God and too become new creations; and so our revival spreads: By faith to faith (Romans 1:16,17).

Therefore, I plead with you, by the mercies of Almighty God, that if you’ve never before trusted in Jesus Christ, you will do so today.  If you are a Christian, I pray that you will go out as an ambassador for the Lord Jesus, and win souls to Him.

From a sinner saved by grace, with peace, and love, and grace to all,

Bill Biza

IS ALL NOW WELL?

SINCE WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A CHANGE IN THE WHITE HOUSE, AND IN FEDERAL ADMINISTRATIVE POLITICS, DOES THAT MEAN ALL IS WELL WITH THE USA?

At the risk of being called a gloom spreader, I, who believe from reading about God’s past dealings with mankind, as well as considering past secular history, submit that all is not well.  As a country, we are more religious than ever, with our various churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, and the like; but we have moved farther and farther away from God as He is revealed in His Holy Word.

As a proponent of Monergism (The Christian belief that the Holy Spirit is the only agent that effects regeneration in humankind), I firmly believe, as I study the news of happenings in the USA at the present time, that spiritual revival is the only thing that will allay what seems to be the inevitable judgement of Almighty God on our country.  We are, I believe (recent political changes to the contrary notwithstanding) headed for an economic collapse,  total anarchy, eventual martial law, and dictatorship in the USA.

When this happens, it will pave the way for one world government, and the rise of the “Man of Sin” spoken of in Scripture.  That will lead to the most terrible time the  earth has ever experienced, and ever will experience.  If you doubt what I’m suggesting here, get your Bible out, get a good concordance, and read about these things.  Then think about the happenings in terms of atrocities, and tragedies, in our times, and, if you sensibly can, tell me I’m off base.  I don’t think you can realistically do that.  Therefore, if you’re not already a Christian:  That is, one saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, believe in Him, and receive Him as your Lord and Savior today.  He alone can save you and deliver you from what is coming upon the world.  If your heart tells you this is so, and you want to come to Him  through faith,  it is because the Holy Spirit has drawn you by God’s irresistible grace.  May God send us a revival today, beginning with you and me!

With love, from a sinner saved by grace
