COME, BY GRACE THRU FAITH, TO GOD!

A MAN ON A WELL KNOWN CHURCH’S TV STATION WAS SAYING, “Come home.”  My thought was, “come home to what.”  This church has had, in recent years, terrible issues with morals among its clergy.  Surely, he wasn’t talking about coming home to that, was he?

It’s true, there has been a lot of confusion, and argument through the centuries since Christ founded His Church, about where the allegiance of one saved by grace through faith belongs.  To make a long story short, it belongs to the Sovereign God, and not on men who have decided, with the approval of Satan to usurp God’s authority.  It belongs to God’s Holy Word, the Bible, and not to a system of superstitions and traditions.

Therefore, the only viable answer to the question of where we should go to be “home,” is: To God, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as He is revealed in the Bible.  Jesus says to us all in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me, you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest unto your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Don’t be duped, dear friends, by those who claim to stand in Jesus’ place.  Read Isaiah 42:8, He gives His glory to no one else, nor His praise to graven images.

COME, BY GRACE THRU FAITH, TO GOD!

SIN and GRACE

ROMAN 5:19,20 – “FOR AS BY ONE MAN’S DISOBEDIENCE MANY WERE MADE SINNERS, SO BY THE OBEDIENCE OF ONE SHALL MANY BE MADE RIGHTEOUS.  MOREOVER, THE LAW ENTERED THAT THE OFFENCE MIGHT ABOUND.  BUT WHERE SIN ABOUNDED, GRACE DID MUCH MORE ABOUND.”

It is probable, no, it is inevitable, that we who belong to God, i.e., we who are His children by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, will try in our own strength to be acceptable to Him.  And, when we do, we will meet with failure.  It must be so, or else we would be puffed up like balloons, and be of no use to God as instruments in His hand.

This is why the New Testament warns of rendering the cross of Christ worthless, by attempting to add to the redemptive work that He has done (Galatians 5:4; 1 Corinthians 1:17).

Sin is the base human nature with which we are all born.  We are all totally depraved from the wombs of our mothers, every single one of us (Romans 3:23; Jeremiah 17:9; Genesis 6:5; Isaiah 53:6; Isaiah 64:6, and many others).  All of us, from the highest of society to the lowest, whether we are speaking of the financial, religious, or political arenas, is a totally depraved sinner in need of salvation that must come by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).

SIN and GRACE

THANKFUL FOR GOD’S GRACE

On June 21, Joyce and I will have been married 57 years, and I’ll be 78 years old.  I was 21 the day we were married in 1959.  I’ve always liked to say that I became, legally, my own boss, and forfeited that privilege on the same day.  That makes me 78 years old, as of the 21st, Lord willing.

As one who has limited education (my own choice), I’m thankful to God that He has put within my heart the desire to teach, preach, write, and make music, concerning the Word of God.  Along with that desire, He has made His call to me to do these things abundantly clear.  Undoubtedly, all of those things that God has called me to do, could have been, and would still be enhanced by a formal education in the same.  Nevertheless, I am who I am by the grace of God, and well satisfied with this fact alone: that I am His and He is mine.  God has a way of using the weakest of vessels of clay for His glory; and the knowledge of that is a great comfort to me.

This morning I did some looking into the history of my blogs, and was surprised to find that I have 66 followers.  Some are from foreign countries.  I realize that my blogs, which are almost entirely evangelistic in nature, may be painful to some of my dearest friends, and perhaps even some of my family.  However, I’m obligated to write what God, the Holy Spirit lays on my heart to write.  Never would I want to, by my demeanor, make people sad or angry.  Yet, I believe that God’s chief attribute is His sovereignty.  When God is put in front, a lot of the ideas of people, and the zeitgeist of our age, and the traditions of many years, must take second place, behind God and His Holy Word.  It is quite natural when you write in that vein, that all will not be happy or pleased with what you write.  Does that mean I’m always right on with what I say?  Absolutely not!  But, I always intend to be honest in regard to listening to God, and to be entirely truthful, insofar as God by His grace, gives me ability to discern the truth.

It’s much easier to try to tickle everyone’s ear.  These are what I term as the feel goody writers.  Religious Newspaper and magazine articles are almost totally of that kind; and the I’m okay your okay “Christian” psychologists dominate Christian radio programming.  It’s easier to write when you stay away from doctrine; but in reality, it isn’t nearly as edifying.

To sum this up, when I write I’m seeking neither favor no disfavor, but rather the truth. That’s most certainly not “politically correct;” but I’m convinced it’s what God would have me do.

As ever, with love and prayers for all from a sinner saved by grace,

Bill

THANKFUL FOR GOD’S GRACE

THE PREEMINENCE OF CHRIST

(Colossians 1:13-20)  “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.  For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through him and for him.  And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.  And he is the head of the body, the church.  He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.  For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile all things to himself, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”

Can you imagine, when you really give your careful attention to the thought, of any  human standing in the place of God the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, as his substitute?  The Scripture above, should be sufficient alone, to show us that this is impossible.

Isaiah 42:8 declares: “I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols.”  That should suffice to show us, most definitely, that no man can stand in the place of Jesus Christ and say, “I have ecclesiastical authority over people, as the vicar of Christ.”

The truth is this: Only God can stand in the place of God!  His glory, He gives “to no other.” It can’t be plainer than He makes it in His Word!  Jesus says of God the Holy Spirit in John 16:12,13 :  “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.  When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you things to come.  He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.  All that the Father has is mine; therefore I have said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”

Therefore, the One who stands in Christ’s place, since Christ has ascended to the right hand of the Father, is the Holy Spirit, our Helper, our Comforter; and, the true Vicar of Jesus Christ.!  Christ is God the Son, and His glory He will not give to another.  But to God the Holy Spirit, He has given authority to stand in His place.  Would He give that authority to a human being?  Absolutely not!  God alone stands in the place of God.  Think of that!  “We have heard the joyful sound, Jesus saves, Jesus saves” (William Kirkpatrick). If you haven’t yet called on Jesus’ name, do so today!

With love, from a sinner saved by grace,

Bill

THE PREEMINENCE OF CHRIST

THREE POSSIBILITIES

There are myriads of ways to approach what is defined as “Christianity”, as it has evolved over the centuries since the true “Way” was determined by the Trinity before the foundation of the World; established by the Lord Jesus Christ; and then perpetuated by the apostles and subsequent Bible believers until now.

Those who are most astute at detailing the many “denominations” with their various ideologies, theologies, and idiosyncrasies, are the atheists and agnostics.  They have made this their particular business, to show how divided Christianity has become.  In actuality, nothing could be farther from the truth.  There are definitely many divisions between people who hold the various erroneous views of what is termed Christianity; but few indeed among those who may be called “Bible believing Christians,” and none that are worth mentioning.  Therefore, I maintain that the “differences”  spoken of by the enemies of Christianity as it’s revealed in Scripture, are mainly differences in unbelievers masquerading as Christians: Some of whom have been deceived; and some who are charlatans.  It would be tedious and unprofitable to go into detail in regard to various cults and sects, both small and great in size and worldly influence.  Therefore, rather, I will mention only three broad possibilities that cover the entire spectrum of Christian belief.  I realize that this will be deemed less than scholarly, among those who are “always learning, and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7).  Concerning them, I couldn’t care less.  Those who have “ears to hear,” will hear,  and it’s they that I’m interested in reaching with the truth.

  1.  One may hook up with a particular denomination, become astute in communicating the traditions and doctrines of that particular denomination (whatever it may be), and hang on like a pit bull to those erroneous beliefs.  These denominations, though they may vary somewhat, are essentially the same, and come from the same root of false Christianity.  They espouse a works salvation, a belief that those converted to the cause must remain faithful (to the church, its traditions and its teachings) or they can be lost again.  Reference to the Bible will only be in an attempt to solidify belief in a tradition, or long held man-made doctrine.

2.  Or one may join a mega church of no distinct doctrine.  Their modus operandi                          will center on recruitment rather than redemption, with a short and all encompassing            statement of faith.  More emphasis is put on fellowship than spiritual foundation.

3.  The last is Bible Christianity, the “faith once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3). It is the gospel as preached by Christ and the apostles.  It is salvation by grace alone; through faith alone; in Jesus Christ alone as He is revealed in the Bible.  For this “Faith once for all delivered to the saints,” we must give glory to God alone.  Jesus Christ is the “Founder and Perfecter” of this faith (Hebrews 12:2).  It is Bible faith built upon our Lord Jesus Christ Himself!

As I said before, those who have ears to hear, will hear; and will come in repentance to God the Father; and by faith to the Lord Jesus Christ.

With love, from a heinous sinner, saved by grace,

Bill

THREE POSSIBILITIES

HOW FIRM IS YOUR FOUNDATION?

(Psalm 11:3)  “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

The answer to that question is, “Nothing.”  Thank God the righteous stand on a foundation that can never be destroyed, i. e., on the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.  It is absolutely necessary for those who know the Lord Jesus Christ, to see the correlation between Jesus Christ, the Living Word (John 1) and the Bible, God’s written Word.  Jesus Christ has been revealed to us in the Bible, and no where else.  If we had no Bible, we would have no truth about Jesus Christ.  We would have only what enemies of Biblical Christianity have passed off for Christianity down through the centuries following Jesus Christ and the apostles. Therefore, Christ as He is revealed in Holy Scripture is the foundation on which all true Christians stand: There is no other foundation, in fact, “All Other Ground is Sinking Sand” (William B. Bradbury).

This is good news indeed.  Jesus is our Rock; our Foundation; our High Priest after the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 7:15-17).  “Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25.)  Do you want to be entangled in a system of religion that says salvation is any other way than what the Bible teaches?  The Bible teaches that salvation is by grace alone; through faith alone; in Jesus Christ alone; as He is revealed in the Bible alone.

There is no mediator between God and humankind except Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:5).  He alone is the way of salvation (Acts 4:12).  Colossians 1:13-20, puts it as succinctly as it can possibly be put: “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”

Once again I ask:  How firm is your foundation?  If it isn’t the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, then it isn’t firm at all!  Make your calling and election sure this very day!

From someone who cares about your soul, a sinner saved by God’s grace,

Bill
